The 2016
Annual Status of Education Report released on Wednesday says a significant
section of students in Classes 1 to 8 cannot read a Class 2 book. The
curriculum for secondary teacher education developed by universities is also
reviewed and updated periodically, in light of changes in the school
curriculum, advances in pedagogical science, societal demands, technological
advancements and changes in the socio-economic structures of the country.
Two of
these are coordinated at the National level, of which one is under the Central
Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and was originally meant for children of
central government employees who are periodically transferred and may have to
move to any place in the country.
The primary
stage consists of Classes I to V. i.e. of five years duration, in 20 States/UTs
namely Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh,
Jammu & Kashmir, Madhya Pradesh, Higher Education in India Manipur,
Orissa, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, West
Bengal, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Chandigarh, Delhi and Karaikal and Yaman
regions of Pondicherry.
